Even though we are a web development company, this post will discuss our favourite websites in the Saint John, NB area that we “haven’t” designed. Memorywalk is not a be all end all web design company, and we often applaud the work of others in the community whether it be in the field of web design or technology. We love modern and innovative ideas, and we tend to really appreciate the work which has “that something special”. Sometimes you cannot put a finger on what it is, but since web design is what we’re about, we are going to try! Here are some of my favourite web designs here in the port city of Saint John, NB!

O’Leary’s Pub

Wow, when I visited this site I was blown away. It not only grabs your attention right from the get go with its powerful green colours, but it also pleasantly leads my eyes downward to read the rest of the homepage. The site has a modern yet neighbourly feel to it since they included a picture of the bar somewhat faded in the background. Some nice touches are the upcoming events section in a unique shaped box that is consistent with the rest of the site (we love consistency), the great social media icons, and the great use of showing off their brand by sticking to their colours.

Crossfit Saint John

It’s almost easy for me to pick out a WordPress site these days because I do quite a bit of research on new themes and plugins. When I first came to the Crossfit Saint John website it had WordPress written all over it. It’s well designed, well spaced with very little clutter. This leaves the site with a clear message. No one likes fluff these days so I applaud Crossfit Saint John for keeping it modern and giving people what they want. Bravo!

Sociallogical

Sociallogical not only has a powerhouse social media team to educate businesses how to succeed through the new social playgrounds, but they also have a great website. For starters, they use beautiful illustrations and they keep things simple. Everyone that comes to their site reads their intro because it’s designed in a way that your eyes jump right to it. The entire site is well balanced and they keep their colors consistent throughout. I would like to see their teams pics as illustrations to go with the rest of the site, but knowing this beautiful site is another WordPress gem gives it an “A”.

So those are my top three Saint John, New Brunswick websites. I can’t tell you how often I cringed while looking through roughly a 100 different websites in the past 2 days, as most are very outdated, but I think my top 3 deserve the special mention. All 3 take their web presence seriously and it gives them a professional edge and brings some excitement to the company. If you appreciate good web design and have a favourite in the Saint John and surrounding area, let us know in the comments!!

It’s crucial to show up in searches in engines like Google. If no one can find your website, then you are simply not creating new customers. For businesses not yet on the web, think of SEO as a marketing tool that helps bring customers through your door. Google is now the “go to” for people to find out information. People will enter in key terms or key phrases to find a business that offers a service or product they are looking for.

This is where Memorywalk becomes one of the most valuable companies you can work with. We have PROVEN results that will blow you away. We not only draw people to your business, we ensure that your business is showing up before your competitors. This does take time and effort, but if you’re serious about business, then we will work with you to make it happen. SEO is not a magic potion or secret solution. It’s research and effort put into a well defined plan going forward.

If you are thinking you cannot afford a website or SEO services, you may want to think about how your business can afford NOT to have a website and SEO services. Every day more and more people are going online, which means more and more people going somewhere else besides your business. What does your future look like?

Change is not always easy for a business because there are many moving factors. Google Apps may not be for every business, but if your a small company, consisting of 10 or less people, and you don’t have a “set in your ways” office, then it’s a MUST have.

To give an overview of what Google Apps is: A suite of web based tools including email, calendar, documents, and others that help your business store and share your information in the most effective way possible. I whole heartedly believe in Google Apps, and that is why I use it for Memorywalk. It’s really a no brainer after trying pretty much everything there is to offer. I’ve been set up with Microsoft Exchange and using Outlook, etc. I’ve also used Apple’s mail and calendar that comes pre-installed on their machines. Lastly, I’ve tried open source applications like Thunderbird. None really come close to the efficiency and ease of use as Google Apps.

Every business needs a website and a domain name that reflects their business. For example, if your business name is Explorer United you would want your website and domain to be explorerunited.com, or .ca. Memorywalk specializes in taking that domain, and creating a beautiful and high impact SEO website, but we also set businesses up on Google Apps so they can start receiving email at sales@explorerunited.com, or jim@explorerunited.com. This is just the beginning. We enable your business to be connected via shared calendars and contacts. We also show you how to write and share documents with coworkers or even clients. We wouldn’t use it if it wasn’t the easiest and best solution out there. Clients of ours love its ease of use.

You are probably wondering how much would something like this cost? It seems very corporate and connected with its sharing capabilities. Well, it’s FREE for organizations with 10 or less employees. We charge a set up fee to get you off your feet and provide some instruction videos if you ever get stuck. Then you are off to the races!

If you are interested in Google Apps you can look into it more on their website or contact us today.

We recently were asked to set up a new domain for a client as they needed an affordable solution to look professional via email. Let’s face it, using a Rogers, hotmail or gmail address is great for personal use, but if you’re serious about business you need your own domain (yourname@yourdomain.com). The company has yet to create a website, but they are focused on getting business cards made with a professional email address to have potential customers contact them at. This is a great starting point to reach out to potential clients and a great first step to looking professional and keeping costs low.

How can you keep costs low? Most people would think they would need their own mail server costing thousands of dollars to set up and maintain. Well 10 years ago, yes, but now there are solutions such as Google Apps that allow you to set up email for up to 10 users, for FREE. This means the only cost for getting your own domain and email up and running for less than 10 people is the labour to get everything set up, and the $10-15/year domain fee. We use Google Apps here at Memorywalk, and I recommend it to every small business out there. They have great pricing for medium to large size organizations which is built to scale. Even some goverment bodies use Google Apps for their email so you know it’s secure. It can also be easily integrated with your iPhone, Android, or Blackberry device.

If you’re looking for a widely trusted and easy way to manage your email, calendar, documents, and contacts…or even keeping it simple if you just want to have your own domain to send and receive email with, contact us today! We can set everything up for just $200 .(This includes instructions to set it up on your smartphone).

The shoe fit from the beginning. When an old colleague approached us in need of a new landing page site for their launch, Memorywalk was intrigued by the opportunity. Infinite Game Publishing (IGP) is a new and different type of game publisher that is releasing their first title MechWarrior this November. They have many more titles already in the works and they simply needed a site where they could announce these new titles to the press and of course most importantly, the fans.

The website project was not a large project but there is an english and french version available since the company hails from Montreal. The most challenging part to this project was the 2 week deadline it had to be done in. Most freelancers and even large companies with various clients would find this near impossible with several iterations of everything that happens when designing and implementing a website. The benefit of choosing Memorywalk for your web solution needs is that we’re dependable and we respond to emails and keep the lines of communication open at all times. This enabled us to get this website up and running on time with everyone involved extremely happy with the final product.

Infinite Game Publishing President Kelly Zmak -

My experience in working with Jeremy was outstanding. We had a very tight deadline for our project, we needed both english and french versions and we were basically starting from scratch. These challenges were compounded by a 4 hour time difference between our locations.

In spite of these challenges, Jeremy exceeded expectations and was ahead of schedule on every aspect of the project. He quickly grasped our vision and transformed it into working concepts we could see and respond to. The end result exceeded my expectations in both quality and impact.

I plan to use Jeremy for future projects as our needs are always changing. His responsiveness, excellent communication and design skills make him an invaluable resource for my company.

We want to wish IGP all the best in the future and we look forward to more titles being announced!

I am truly honored to announce that I will be getting married this summer, and with that comes another new design to the portfolio. I honestly couldn’t be more excited and so here I am showing off our most recent design that I did for family members and friends. The site consists of a few different sections such as our story, the wedding party, and even an RSVP for the wedding.

A wedding website is a great way to make the guests feel more connected to the wedding and you as a couple. This is the 2nd wedding website Memorywalk has completed in the past year and we’re excited to see that this is becoming more of a trend with younger couples. The custom designs use your wedding colors with optional photo galleries and/or RSVP section.

If you are saying your vows contact Memorywalk and you will end up with a beautiful custom website that will make telling guests about your wedding that much easier!

Ron Harvey Jr, the professional golfer from Sussex, NB ,who is currently playing professionly in Asia, came to us in need of a website. We were truly excited about the opportunity right from the initial Skype meeting that was more of a reunion than anything else. Ron is a best friend of mine and I wanted to ensure he had a website that could adapt to his busy lifestyle . The website spans from his most recent results to the personal side of being a professional golfer in Asia. We set Ron up with a blog called “The Journeyman” which will describe some of the on and off the course journey’s he has taken while on tour.

Ron is currently the only Canadian playing professional golf in Asia and his stories are truly remarkable. As you can imagine touring in a place where language barriers and unfamiliar territories exist it can form its challenges. You will notice the design of this site is extremely simplistic, easy to navigate, and pleasing to the eye. We pride our designs on being kept simple, and ones much like RonHarveyJr.com are becoming more and more popular with clients.

What are some of the key elements to a great design? Complimentary colours, symmetrical architecture and personal touch! We really believe we’ve nailed it on the Saint John Men’s League website. The feedback has been amazing and it is much easier for everyone in the league to stay informed of scheduling & results from games. The idea to take one of Saint John’s great basketball legends Rod Cox and make a version of the NBA logo in his honor was the tip of the iceberg. We would like to thank Paul Vaughan, also a big piece in Saint John basketball’s great history, for supplying us with information for the site and for a photo of Rod.

Our WordPress CMS gives the men’s league the ability to easily update content and scores without having to know html or CSS. The site was simply set up for any novice user to update. If you have a sports club or league looking for a website please feel free to contact us – 506-434-1883 or email us.
